Caden Says

Sometimes Caden will pick up a toy not realizing that Abby just had her mouth all over it. He'll then drop it and say, "Yuck! Abby's mouth water is on that toy!"

The kids both have a cold and runny nose right now (this might be a little gross). Anyhow, the other day Caden was picking at the side of his nose. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was picking "the wood" (a.k.a. dried snot - or "snoot" - as we like to call it - sounds nicer than snot don't ya think?) that was on his nose.

The other day we were sitting at the kitchen table when Caden turned to me and said, "When I was in your belly, I could definitely see." I asked him what he could see, and his response was, "Food, like soup, juice, and oranges." Where does he come up with this stuff?

Shoe Confusion

Yesterday, Caden came down stairs, saw Jason's shoes, and said, "Daddy's home!" I then had to tell him the sad news that he wasn't home. Then later that morning, we were in my bedroom, and he saw another pair of Jason's shoes. He then exclaimed, "Oh no!" I asked him what was wrong, and he said, "Daddy's not wearing any shoes!" I guess Daddies are only allowed 2 pairs of shoes :)

A Joke

Somehow Caden has learned how to tell jokes...actually it's just 1 joke over and over again, and it goes like this:

Caden: "Why did the chicken cross the playground?"

Caden (again): "Say, I don't know, why?"

Me: "I don't know, why?"

Caden: "To get to the other slide!"

At least it's a cute one.

Sore Heart

Yesterday, at breakfast, Caden was playing with his spoons (he'll play with anything). Anyhow, apparently they had just been reunited and they were saying how much they missed each other. Then the one spoon said, "My heart was sore." How does he come up with these things???

Gray Hair?!

Today we were talking about our hair color. Caden looked at mine and said, "gray". I said, "GRAY?!" Then he said, "No, red." I was wearing a gray shirt...that's where he got gray from, right??

Caden

These are just a few things Caden says/does that put a smile on my face:

~ After watching Toy Story 3, at the end when Andy's mom is sad that he's leaving for college, I always tell Caden I'm going to be sad when he leaves for college. The other night he said, "I know, you can come with me to college!"

~ He loves playing with his "Humpback Racer" (you might know it as a Bounce Back Racer).

~ When standing at the top of the stairs, he discovered that he can make an echo. Today he said, "Listen Mom, I gecko-ed!"

~ Yesterday after I showed him that Daddy's car was still in the garage due to snow, he was really confused as to where Jason was. We were talking about different possibilities (like Daddy walked to work, or Daddy walked to the store to buy more bananas), he said, "When we're done here, we'll go upstairs to investigate."

~ Yesterday and today he pulled something out to play with, played with it, packed it back up, and then put it back where he got it from all without my saying a word! Amazing! I thought I would never see the day :)

~ If I'm upset with him, he'll say, "Put on a happy face" and then proceed to start singing the song - very hard to not smile!

~ At the end of his bedtime praying I'll either say, "In Jesus' name, Amen" or just, "Amen". If I just say, "Amen" he'll say, "You forgot the Jesus part" and then say, "Jesus' name is Jesus, Amen".

Wonderful Words

Lately for some reason Caden has been saying, "You're beautiful!" and, "You're wonderful!" I'm not sure why he's saying these things...but I sure can't hear them enough :) I'm so lucky to have such a sweet little boy (most of the time).

A Little Boy's Prayer

Tonight after we did our normal bedtime prayer and after praying for God to help Caden make the right decisions during the day and to listen to his Mommy and Daddy (this has been a recent addition :), Caden decided to say his own little prayer without any prompting. It went something like this, "Dear Lord, please help Daddy fix the towel rack. I hung on it and it breaked." (this actually happened the other week, but I guess it's still on his mind)

A Baby Named Steve

We have pictures that cycle through as our screen saver. They pop up anywhere from recent ones to a few years back. Each picture starts up an interesting conversation. Anyhow, a picture popped up from my baby shower for him. I told him what it was from and why you have baby showers. He all of a sudden said, "Where's my first baby?" I told him he didn't have one yet and why. Then I asked him what he would name his baby, and his response was, "Steve." I wonder if he'll remember that...

"Go Your-Ami" (not Miami)

Jason's favorite college football team is the Miami Hurricanes (took me about 5 years to remember that, but anyhow). Caden is watching the game with him now and shouting, "Go Your-Ami" (apparently it isn't his Ami or my-ami). I asked isn't it Miami? His response was, "No, it's Daddy's Ami". Then later he shouted, "Oh no! Your-Ami fell down." He's always good for a laugh.

"Odorant"

Caden has been "teaching" Abigail lots of things lately.  The other day he wanted to teach her how to crawl.  Today he actually was teaching her about "odorant" (what he calls deodorant...also in Monster's Inc. but I don't think he remembers that).  The "lesson" went like this...he picked up Jason's deodorant and walked over to Abigail.  "Hi Abby!  This is oderant.  This is Daddy's oderant.  He puts it on his armpits."  I'm just waiting for the day when he puts some on himself (and hopefully not Abby).

Eleventeen

The other night I weas playing hide-and-seek with Caden. I told him to go to the front door and count to ten while I hid. He heard me say "ten" so he started with ten. This is what we heard, "Ten, eleven, twelve, fourteen, seventeen, eleventeen, eleventeen, eleventeen." When in doubt, eleventeen works.

"Bear" Feet

On Thursday, Caden was flipping through a JCPenney ad and stopped at the baby/kid clothes section. He enjoys looking at shoes, so he asked me what type of shoes they were wearing. The older kids were wearing flip-flops, sandals, and sneakers which he said were just plain shoes. Then he pointed to the babies and asked what they were wearing. I said they had bare feet, and his response was, "They aren't bears Mom, they are babies!" Silly me!

"D-O-G Gone"

Today, while taking a walk with his dad, Caden heard a dog barking. He turned to Jason and said, "D-O-G gone" (not sure why he said gone). Jason had him repeat it to make sure he heard right, and sure enough, he spelled dog again (thanks Word World on PBS).

Other Caden things:
- Lately he's been saying, "I love you too" when we say I love you to him. The other night he came up to me and gave me a hug. Then he said, "I love you too, Abby." I think he meant Mommy...
- Yesterday I asked him to read to me. He said he that he couldn't do it because "I'm just a kid!"
- He likes to dip his foods while eating. Some examples - egg salad sandwich into yogurt (thumbs down), peanut butter and jelly into yogurt (thumbs up), waffle into applesauce (thumbs up).
- He's been asking us to cover him up like a baby for naps and bedtime and then lay him down like a baby. All we do is just wrap him up and lay him on his back.

"Dangerous"

Yesterday, while checking my email, Caden said, "Mommy! Daddy doing something dangerous!" I asked what he was doing and Caden said he was standing on a chair. When I turned around, all he was doing was propping one foot up on a chair. I guess Caden just felt the need to tell on Daddy!

"Huh?"

It was cute about the first 30 times Caden looked at me and said, "huh?" but now it's driving me nuts! I have to repeat everything I say at least twice, and then I just say never mind :) It's hard to tell if he really didn't hear me, really doesn't understand, or is just doing it for fun. He looks so innocent when saying it though.

Fifteen Animals!

I believe I've mentioned before that we are fans of Sandra Boynton's books. Anyhow, Caden's GG gave him Fifteen Animals for his birthday. We've read it just a few times, but not enough I thought for him to memorize the last name. I don't want to give away the story, but at the end there's a turtle named Simon James Alexander Ragsdale the Third, and he can say the whole name without help. Lately he's been adding "Amen!" to the end of it, so today while in church he started saying the name and then "Amen!" I guess all the prayers in church influenced him? He's so fun!

P.S. Happy Easter!

Conversations with Caden

It is so fun having a talking 2 year-old around. The other day he had to go in time out for pushing buttons on the DVD player. When his time was up, I asked him why he was in time out. He said, "Push buttons DVD player on purpose." I guess he's learning the difference between "on purpose" and "by accident." Then, later that night I went to check on him because it was after 9, and he was still awake. When I walked in, he said, "Mommy all dressed!" which is what he says in the morning when I get him up (he must have thought he slept and it was morning?). Then he put his hands on my belly and said, "Sunshine still in there!" So fun!

Letters and Numbers

Caden now says A, B, C, D, F, G (don't know why "E" is skipped) and says 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 14 :) Still working on it...
